The only area where the 2 quarters is really important is the area where the lock goes into the door frame. 1 quarter of clearance everywhere else is fine. As for metal doors, the majority of doors that our products are installed on are metal. Based on your clearance, purchasing a kit with MINI door shields should work fine for you.
