The main difference between the side light kit and the regular kit is in the way it attaches to the door. A sidelight door has no jamb for long screws to attach to. The sidelight jamb shield is therefore L-shaped and attaches to the face of the sidelight with long screws. In short, they are really completely different, in the way they work.
